Belconnen Arts Centre Code of Conduct

Belconnen Arts Centre (BAC) attracts and welcomes over 40,000 people each year who come for many reasons and undertake diverse roles. This includes our many casual visitors, the active participants attending workshops and events, our highly valued volunteers support delivery of our programs and events, our energetic staff, resident company members and artists in residence, facility hirers and board.  We want all who come to enjoy the many opportunities and benefits BAC can provide.

This code of conduct advises all people involved with BAC are aware of their rights and responsibility to respect and act in the best interests of BAC and one another.

Our casual Visitors and paying Participants will

  • be alerted to this code of conduct through its prominent display at BAC and at off-site activities
  • use BAC facilities and have access to activities and events without unreasonable distraction or disturbance
  • respect the rights and comfort and convenience of others while at BAC and offsite activities
  • agree to any reasonable request by a member of staff, volunteer or other BAC representative in a supervisory role

Volunteers will

  • acknowledge the code of conduct during their induction and actively refer to it as situations require
  • act honestly and with integrity and work for the good of BAC
  • respect board, staff members, volunteers, participants, all who access BAC, and their rights and points of view
  • take care of BAC property and report unsafe situations and incidents without delay
  • agree to any reasonable request by a member of staff, volunteer or other person in a supervisory role

Hirers

  • acknowledge the code of conduct during their induction
  • act honestly and with integrity when at BAC
  • respect board, staff members, volunteers, participants, all who access BAC, and their rights and points of view
  • take care of BAC property and report unsafe situations and incidents without delay

Artists in Residence and Resident Company Members

  • acknowledge the code of conduct during their induction and actively refer to it as situations require
  • act honestly and with integrity and work for the good of BAC and actively support and promote its objectives
  • participate openly and transparently in decision making as it affects their residence or practice
  • respect board, staff members, volunteers, participants, all who access BAC, and their rights and points of view
  • take care of BAC property and report unsafe situations and incidents without delay

Staff will

  • acknowledge the code of conduct during their induction and actively refer to it as situations require
  • act honestly and with integrity, work for the good of BAC and actively support and promote its objectives
  • participate openly and transparently in decision making
  • respect board, fellow staff members, volunteers, all who access BAC, and their rights and points of view
  • respect decisions taken by the Board
  • maintain confidentiality in relation to Board business unless otherwise agreed to by the Board
  • will declare all outside work for determination of any potential conflict with their responsibilities to BAC
  • take care of BAC property and report unsafe situations and incidents without delay

Board members will

  • acknowledge the code of conduct during their induction and actively refer to it as situations require
  • work for the good of BAC and actively support and promote its objectives
  • provide leadership, act honestly and with integrity
  • ensure and encourage ethical conduct and decision making that employs high standards of governance including declaring potential conflicts of interest
  • participate openly and transparently in decision making
  • respect fellow board members, staff, volunteers, all who access BAC, their rights and points of view
  • respect decisions taken by the Board
  • maintain confidentiality in relation to Board business unless otherwise agreed to by the Board
