This exhibition is the culmination of a multicultural community project during which artists have produced a range of artistic works, while writers have authored stories in Spanish and English.
The diverse subject matter includes migration, memory and the environment - natural or constructed, psychological or political. An underlying theme is change. Transformations can be subtle and develop over time - as a chrysalis evolves into an insect, or as the seasons alter the appearance of a tree, or they can be traumatic and abrupt - as people migrate from their homeland to Australia and discover they cannot return, or, if they do, the people, government or the environments are no longer the same.
What aspects of the new culture can be incorporated, integrated or must be rejected? What of the old can still be cherished? And who will observe the many small metamorphoses, whether in the people or their surroundings?
