Martin Paull has been commissioned to paint the Stations of the Cross which narrate the suffering of Jesus leading up to the crucifixion. Each painting depicts a key event from this journey. The object of each painting (station) is to help guide people in prayer by meditating upon them.
There are several forms of the Stations of the Cross, ranging from traditional (painted by Martin) to modern interpretations.
In this series of paintings Martin has depicted the Stations of the Cross using bushfire imagery. Bushfires have been a key theme throughout his work, stemming from his experiences in the Adelaide Hills during the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983.
