Footprints: Marks on our Environment showcases the work of 19 of Australia’s innovative and environmentally-concerned artists whose works explore the impact of cultural, spiritual, environmental and economic footprints which a society and individuals leave on our environment.
The artists examine how the impact of environmental and social changes have affected and altered their own artistic visions and practices. Artists include: Faye Alexander, Claudia Bottrill, Jason Davidson, Jen Fullerton, Felicity Green, Gabriella Hegyes, Jessica Herrington, Jo Hollier, Fran Ifould, Rosalind Lemoh, Vivien Lightfoot, Mandy Martin, Lisa Molvig, Maryann Mussared, Renee Newton, Tanja Riese, Chad Swanson, Kate Ward, Corinne Ying Zhang.
Footprints coincides with World Environment Day (5 June), which is an annual global event aimed at celebrating positive environmental action. WED celebration began in 1972 and has grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment.
“Just as World Environment Day personalises environmental issues, and encourages individuals to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development, so does the Footprints exhibition allow for powerful artistic examination of each artists’ own environmental concerns,” says Director Hannah Semler. Mediums include print, drawing and painting, digital installation and sculpture, by artists from the Canberra region and beyond.
