

Children from 6 to 12 years old will learn how to draw from nature and use these skills in developing imaginative works.
Week 1: Portraits "Taking the line for a walk". We will explore the use of line and contour to make portraits of ourselves and each other, using the line as a way of "looking".
Week 2: "Express Yourself". We will look at different ways to create feeling in a drawing using mark making and colour. Students will use different techniques to create expressive self portraits, and we will also look at emotion.
Week 3: "Lighten up". Using familiar objects from home or their immediate environment students will create images using tone, light and shade. From kitchen utensils to favourite toys, we will use charcoal/graphite and an eraser to draw.
Week 4: "Getting back to nature" We will draw on objects from our natural environment including native vegetation and animal life to further explore still life, in particular observing the wonderful texture and shapes. (and how we can put things together

Week 5: " A birds eye view" How does your house and surroundings look from a birds perspective? We will look at aerial landscapes as a way of creating a "map" of our world (and the use of symbols in creating a landscape
)
Week 6: "Mix it up" Collage. We will be using different media such as old telephone books, cut outs and other objects together with drawing to create a picture (combining line colour and word) to create an emotional landscape and some fun images.
Week 7: "Tell me a story" Narrative pictures that tell a story. Based on a photo, memory, experience or favourite object we will look at ways of drawing a scene that tells a story.
Week 8: Dream and the imagination. How would you draw your dreams? We will look at imaginative points of inspiration, such as dreams, music, and imagining the end of stories.
Week 9: Mixed media - now for something completely different. We will explore different methods of drawing without pencil or paper. How about drawing from scratching into sand? Drawing on wood or using other materials such as twigs?
Week 10. Back Home. We will look at different images of home by artists, and draw our homes using a favourite technique to create your own piece. How would you draw the favourite room in your house? . What does home mean to you? Is it your favourite room, family, pet or the objects inside?
