Dundunba African Drum and Dance

Discover the energy, tradition and culture of West Africa!

Vibrant, energetic and fun classes suitable for every skill level are starting soon at the new Belconnen Arts Centre on the shore of Lake Ginninderra. Tutors David and Jayne Simon have studied in Guinea, West Africa and are excited to share the music of Africa with the people of Canberra.

Drum classes with David will teach drummers of all experience levels traditional rhythms, showing you how different rhythm accompaniments, variations, solo patterns and breaks fit together. Learn the djembe or dundun drums and then if you want to practice your new rhythm stay after class and drum for the dancers! Beginners are very welcome but numbers are limited for those without drums, so book early.

Dance classes with Jayne will focus on traditional choreographies, breaking down the steps into easy-to-follow stages. Have loads of fun dancing bare foot to live accompaniment each week and get fit with this energetic dance form. No prior dance experience necessary.
