Australia Day at BAC

Celebrate Australia Day and participate in fun, fabulous and free activities for all ages and abilities throughout Australia Day Belconnen style.  Choose to sing, take a gallery tour with artist Nancy Tingey of NeTlines, dance, try some arts and crafts, or make a kite  -  for all the family.  A barbeque will be sizzling from 12 noon with hot live music and chilled drinks available from the kiosk.

Australia Day music and movement sessions for the whole family presented by Moozik Studio. Sing and dance to Australian songs and hear the unique sounds and rhythms of the Australian bush, coast and wildlife. All instruments and materials supplied.

CHAOS IN THE CREATIVE WORKSHOPS! (CW1)

Make a stamp-print masterpiece using simple and safe materials – pencils, foam and paint. Do try this at home! Together we will compose a beautiful print-collage that will stay at the Arts Centre, and you will also take home your very own print masterpiece!

12:00 & 2:00pm MAKE A HUNKY DORY PUPPET with HUNKY DORY PUPPETS
Try a simple 2D puppet making workshop! Color, cut, assemble & string your own Jumping Jack with puppeteers Marcus & Carolyn Goddefroy. You can choose a clown, fairy queen, gnome, policeman or girl clown.

SINGALONG FOR SENIORS with LINDSAY NESCI (Arts Lounge)

You’re invited! Join our informal group sing-along with versatile pianist, easy-to-see lyrics booklets and hundreds of songs of variety and taste from around the world. Share fond memories and great melodies from the 1920s to the 1970s. Requests welcome!

DANCE MOVES AND GROOVES (Dance Studio)
11:30am INTRODUCTION TO HILAL DANCE with RACHAEL HILTON (Hilal Dance Canberra)
Contemporary Egyptian Dance developed by Egyptian artist Suraya Hilal. Hilal dance draws its inspiration from the traditional dance cultures of Egypt and from Arab aesthetics and extends these traditions in an expansive and contemporary way.

2:00, 2:30 & 3:00pm SALSA, REGGAETON and ZUMBA with Kokoloco
Try a 30 minute taste of each and whet your appetite for some hot Latin nights in 2012. Salsa is the most sensual, fun and popular Latin dance style around the world, Reggaeton combines sexy Latin and Jamaican dancehall for a body rolling, booty popping experience and Zumba is the Latin dance fitness craze taking over the world.

GALLERY TOUR OF NeTlines (Textiles and works on paper by Artist NANCY TINGEY)

A tour by Nancy Tingey of her installations and wall pieces investigating the concepts relating to duality, division, trapping and travel. Works include constructed textiles, watermedia (made in collaboration with Jackie Scammell) and charcoal drawings.
