Gill’s work emerges through experimentation. Working with chance and accident to investigate the innate language of material I seek to translate ideas that are part of its language into a physical reality, and not disguise the essential character of the material. Important to this process is to listen to the ‘what if’ that precedes exploration, and not the ‘what if’ that precedes fear of risk.
Leonie Gill was awarded this exhibition by Belconnen Arts Centre as part of the Australian National University, School of Art, Emerging Artist Support Scheme.
