From Folk Art to High Art: How the Kite became an Art Form
Peter Travis AM

18 May–10 June » Gallery

Since 1974 Peter Travis, internationally-known designer, sculptor and artist working in clay, has been creating kites and aerial sculptures for gallery installations, architectural  interior spaces and the well-known Bondi Festival of the Winds. Invitations to international kite festivals led him to develop a remarkable collection of folk kites made by village people from many countries.
The exhibition will display a wide assortment of his collection as well as photos of his kite installations and working drawings. Travis will present programs about the folk kites and his own experiences designing, constructing, and flying kites around the world.

Exhibition opening > Friday 18 May > 6:00pm
