Long continues her exploration of the present moment, and of how our identities are contingent on the constant reconciliation of opposing fields: comfort and catastrophe. Her work investigates the intersections between east and west, our helplessness in the face of impermanence and aging and our relationship with the natural world, particularly animals. Having completed a degree in Visual Arts in sculpture at ANU in 2011, her art practice applies the disciplines of meditation, graphic and clothing design and making to arrive at strongly textured and materially layered objects and works that are both raw and resolved.
Janet Long was awarded this exhibition by Belconnen Arts Centre as part of the Australian National University, School of Art, Emerging Artist Support Scheme.
