Sax & Strings - Music For Everyone

Sunday 23 September > 3:00pm

Let the melodic tones of jazz mixed with the spirit of light classics take you away to another place — enjoy an afternoon of Music For Everyone’s ensembles Saxophonix, conducted by Ben Sutcliffe, and Sempre Strings, conducted by Andrew Lorenz.

Andrew Lorenz has had an extensive and varied career as a university lecturer of 30 years, violin soloist, orchestra leader and chamber musician, broadcasting and performing throughout the world. He currently tutors for Music For Everyone, leads Trio Empyrean with cellist David Pereira and pianist Wendy Lorenz, runs a teaching studio and plays with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra.

Benn Sutcliffe studied classical saxophone at the Victorian College of the Arts before heading into a varied musical career. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, he has performed and recorded on the entire saxophone and clarinet families, as well as the flute, in settings ranging from big bands, television, professional musical theatre, recording sessions, saxophone quartets, orchestras and free improvised groups. He has a strong interest in new music and in his spare time enjoys growing vegetables and doing yoga.
