With Hanna Hoyne
24 October – 28 November 2019
See the world of garbage with new eyes; reimagine what you throw away to become new, unique and lovable little sculptures. Hanna Hoyne will show you simple and inexpensive methods to create an original form, and a cast of it, so you can create infinite copies. Work on the surfaces of both sculptures, treating them differently to become two conceptually different works.

Week 1 (24 October)
After a short introductory presentation on the course concepts, materials and methods, we will choose three mystery objects and begin compositing them into one, using the tape-binding method and eco-cellophane wrapping.
Week 2 (31 October)
Finish wrapping objects with eco-cellophane and move on to our next materials, fiberglass tissue and Bondcrete.
Week 3 (7 November)
We will discuss object surfaces, with examples, as we continue applying fiberglass and Bondcrete to our objects. We will then move on to plaster and a Bondcrete water solution and how to apply on an object in a smooth and efficient matter. We will research materials and final looks for our objects, to be discussed in week 4.
Week 4 (14 November)
This week we will learn how to heal seams with tissue and Bondcrete as we cut the shell off our objects.Demonstrate cutting off the shell of the original objects and how to reassemble using tape and then healing seams with tissue and Bondcrete. Inspect original, unwrapped object and surface it with tissue and bondcrete, and discuss choices for surface treatments.
Week 5 (21 November)
Sand and fill newly cast object, applying plaster and bondcrete as needed and prepare surface treatments for your sculptures, and consider possible titles.
Week 6 (28 November)
Clad your objects with appropriate surface treatments, working collaboratively to achieve your desired results. We will name and photograph our finished pieces.
All materials will be provided.
