“Architecture is ultimately about materials, it is a conversation between materials and human beings. The world is a large, enigmatic thing, but through materials, through their concrete presence, a dialogue is possible with human beings.”
– Kengo Kuma
Wayforming is a community collaboration with artist Lucy Irvine, running alongside her Made of Holes exhibition for the DESIGN Canberra Festival 2018. Over three weekends the public will be invited to explore Lake Ginninderra’s edge through weaving sculptural forms, connecting Belconnen Arts Centre to its surrounding environment and bringing people together in a material response and expression of place.
Using irrigation piping, hose joiners and cables ties, the public will be invited to collaborate with the artist in the making of the installation, forming material pathways and visual connections to Lake Ginninderra. These making sessions will take place between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 3 November, Saturday 10 November and Saturday 17 November, with opening night from 6pm on Tuesday 20 November. Other times for specific groups can be arranged through Belconnen Arts Centre.
