IGNITE: Alternative Arts Academy
29 November 2019 – 9 February 2020
Opening night | 6pm Friday 29 November 2019
IGNITE: Alternative Arts Academy draws people together from a broad range of artistic, disability and d/Deaf experiences to creatively collaborate in an exhibition that considers disability as a multi-layered experience. The work, in soft and hard sculpture, aims to promote dialogue about the presence of disability in our lives and to create a positive alternative to the widespread negative images and understandings of what it means to live with disability; we are more than a medical diagnosis. We want to reshape understanding of disability. (In)visible is an opportunity to show how disability informs part of the rich tapestry of human experience. A sense of shared identity and the face is used to re-imagine the representation of disability and create a positive, vibrant and visible presence.
